Research in Addiction
It is made up of three action plans:
- Prevention Action Plan - aimed at preventing illicit drug use;
- Treatment Action Plan - aimed at treating those with drug dependencies
- Enforcement Action Plan - aimed at combating the production and distribution of illicit drugs
CIHR’s Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA) has received funding through the National Anti-Drug Strategy, under the Treatment Action Plan for fiscal years 2007-2008 through 2011-2012. INMHA has launched a number of related funding opportunities, with an aim that these targeted investments will lead to improved prevention and lead to better treatments for Canadians with illicit drug dependencies.
INMHA hosted its second annual Substance Abuse Prevention & Treatment Initiative Workshop. The workshop took place on November 9-10, 2011 in Vancouver. The objective of the workshop was to share results from research projects funded under CIHR-INMHA’s strategic programs.
The workshop was also used as an opportunity to seek input from the Canadian research community and other national stakeholders on the future directions of CIHR-INMHA’s strategic priorities for research in addition.
- Share results of CIHR funded research under the National Anti-Drug Strategy
- Inform CIHR-INMHA’s new Strategic Plan (2011 – 2016) in the area of addiction research
- Discuss CIHR-INMHA on key strategic areas of research in the context of the funding to CIHR of NADS
